Analog signal is superior to anything else.
I wish someone had told me this earlier. I’m just becoming a true audiophile and these are the gateway drug. I spent 400 on Sony WXM1000h which I thought would be the best possible sound, and I think they are for bluetooth headphones, but they use software and computer chips to place the sound dimensionally. These are half the price and the sound is a freaking miracle. I feel like I am in a space and all of the tones and instruments have their own position. I can direct my attention to them individually. I can hear crazy detail in records I’ve listened to a million times. Someone laughing in the recording booth and they left it in for some reason, really astonishing detail. I guess this is called the “stage” which people say is narrow for this model. I don’t really understand that but it’s just beautiful. I guess everything is spatial but the space is a smaller than a concert hall. If you are like me and always wanted audio experience but are too into cell phones and so think bluetooth and other technology matter, take the leap and buy this. It is life changing. I got a shitty set of bluetooth headphones as well just in order to make hands free phone calls. ditch the tech and get what you really want!
*sound is neutral – this means you get the true presentation of the music, not distorted at all
*open ear means people sitting next to you can also hear the music even though it is quiet- maybe not great for an office or shared space
*no noise cancelling means you can still hear sounds through the phones. I haven’t tried these on an airplane but I bet they wouldn’t muffle the noise at all. this is on purpose to achieve neutral / spatial sound.
*these are huge and don’t fold. I don’t think I will travel with them, because I don’t want to risk breaking them. this could be a plus I think, since every pair of nice headphones I’ve ever owned have ended up breaking on the hinge. No hinge means they are sturdier.
*these are the most light and comfortable headphones I’ve ever owned. They aren’t sweaty or constrictive at all and you can wear them for hours. the ear cups are super soft. some bad reviews are saying they feel flimsy but they are designed to be light and the open design lets in normal air circulation.
*No MIC you can’t make phone calls. Hey do yourself a favor and take a break from your phone to enjoy your music!
I think of this kind of like a fixed – gear bike. if you get rid of all the gears the chain is shorter and the whole mechanism works more effectively and you get more power for your pedalling. If you strip away all of the options you are used to having with headphones and just focus on the quality of sound you will end up with these headphones. They are the lowest priced product in the audiophile category and the sound is life changing if you’ve never experienced it before. The sound is light years beyond anything digital or bluetooth can deliver. You probably won’t wear them out of the house but so what. Don’t be tricked into 500 dollar bluetooth headphones, just get these for music and some cheaper bluetooth headphones for hands free calls and you will end up with the same price tag and way more enjoyment.
TLDR: If you are considering 500 dollar bluetooth headphones because you love music, get these and a pair of cheap bluetooth headphones instead.

Getting these for only 150 feels like ive committed a crime because these are easily 300-400 pound headphones. They are incredibly light (granted its mostly plastic) but do not feel cheap or flimsy whatsoever, this makes them both feel premium and are very easy to wear. I’m a massive fan of the over-ear styles and these are my first open back pair as well. I have always used closed back just due to the immersion and the noise cancelling, however these are a game changer.
The open back style allows for fantastic depth of sound whilst retaining brilliant bass and audio awareness. I’m actually more of a fan now of being able to hear what’s going on around me as these are used at home. Of course there are benefits to having closed back, but im much more of an earphones guy when out in public just due to the infamous headphone dent that is quite embarrassing.
I got my Sennheiser’s in Ivory and they look gorgeous, the cream outer cups with the brown velour inners make them really nice to look at hanging from my desk. With this velour ear comfort, the headphones dont vac seal to your head like my previous ones (Razer BlackShark V2’s) which had a sort of carpet material which was both uncomfortable, hard to clean and not particularly nice to look at.
All in all, these sound brilliant, are the most comfortable headphones you’ll ever wear and are very reasonably priced considering the quality. 10/10.

The 599 or what we could call the ‘flagship’of the 5-Series cannot be taken lightly. I got the black one for a great deal and yes its amazing.
CAUTION : Before we start, please note that these are audiophile headphones. If you are new to these, read more. First of all they would not perform well unless one uses an Amp like Fiio or Behringer. Your DAC player, iPod or iPhone wont do the job alone and one might regret the sound quality. Secondly an Impedance of 50 ohms demands the best quality of audio files.
Pros
+ Magnificent Sound-stage, despite a minor compression in the upper mids
+ One of the most comfortable headsets in History; this ensures comfortable critical listening for several hours
+ Brilliant Highs: extremely rich in detail, the high end sometimes seems to be on the verge of piercing with accuracy while listening to some of the best vocals. The high end isn’t too bright or plastic, with everything kept nicely in check
+ Brilliant Mids: Mid and Low-mid are reproduced perfectly. Upper mid could be slightly better though
+ These ones exceed and perform way better in the Highs and Mids than the DT 990 Pro, ATH M50x and even Bose
+ Its a pleasure listening to New Age, Vocals, Instrumental, Pop, Jazz, Soft Rock, Classic Rock, Bollywood (high quality files please) and even Fusion
Cons
– Not everybody has blue eyes and soft blond hair. Sennheiser needs to think that many Africans, skinheads with sharp hair, sharp beards use this product. Having said that the leather headband tends to age faster due to friction than it should. Sennheiser needs to improve this for their earcups too, this also applies to the 280 Pro and 380 Pro and many other Senns. Avoid leather please. Why sell such good products with cheap quality plastic, rubber and cushions that rip off in a few months? My philips SHP 9500 headband and earcups last for 15 years. Think.
– Noise Cancellation – you can in fact hear your Siberian cats or Maine coons ‘meow’, even the hiss of a snake around can be easily heard, although I hope not. Now this is how they are: read Open Back, so do not crib!
– Sound Isolation: your Maine Coons, Siberians and even spiders around can hear the track that you are listening to, distinctly. This is by design again
– Lows: Germans often get the bass wrong, Senns are no exception. Low-bass, which is responsible for low-end thump and rumble is completely lacking if compared to some really good bass-head cans out there. Hip-Hop, Rap, Trap and EDM fans may look elsewhere
– Highly amplified distortion, emphatic rhythms, intense bass-and-drum sound does not sound good on these ones, just like many other Senns. Metal, Grunge, Doom, Punk and Dark Rock fans may look elsewhere
– Never use these outdoors, they are delicate and not meant for such use!
– At last but not the least, what stops Sennheiser from giving a cover for such good headphones?
– Burn in time is relatively long but worth it

Sound is clear detailed soft and powerful. Enveloping natural real and total bass. SWEEEET STRAWBERRY. Tears comes… Its a gift for this money… I listen with iphone and macbook. Its the best headphones for smartphone bcz other more expensive models has more impendance – its not for smartphones, but remember that sound quality depends on smartphone quality too…
I compared it with:
Sennh Ambeo Headphones – also great sound, but not so. More practical device
BD DT240 – absolutely low level headphones. I suppose price in India so high bcz of taxes. Unreal price
JBL quantum 100 – low level phones but sounds even better than DT240

Très bien, le son est claire, les basses présentes, confortable, je recommande.

What a sensational sounding set of headphones! The highs are stunning, the mids are crisp and the lows are just right. I don’t get how some have complained about the bass, but I’m very used to the Sennheiser sound so maybe that’s lost on me. My first HiFi headphones and I’m might pleased with this purchase 🙂

Amazing headphones by Sennheiser.
John –
Really happy with the purchase, great sound quality and soundstage. Word of caution – these are open back headphones, so they won’t seal off any external sound
Vinay Lohar –
best sound clarity, very comfortable on ears!

Right, so I bought these cans because I wasn’t too happy with the 598 SR that I purchased during the Diwali sale. Brought the 599 home, unpacked them and plugged em into my desktop PC with the Asus Xonar Essence STX sound card. Players used Winamp, JRiver and Foobar using native, ASIO and WASAPI drivers. Genres – Rock, soft rock, jazz, smooth jazz, ambient, EDM and deep house all FLAC, APE or MP3s at 320 Kbps format.
I knew I hit gold the second the music started playing. I haven’t heard better sounding headphones (I have several) since buying my HD 650. Oh the stereo separation and sound stage, the vocals, the mid range, the warmth and overall really smooth sound just ticked all the boxes for me. 5 stars for the sound. You can’t get a better headphone in the Sennheiser range at this price. If you need balanced, warm sound get the 599. You won’t regret it. Note they take time to ‘open up’ and the ivory colouring will show stains or dirt easily.
What I didn’t like – like others in the 5xx series is made of plastic & the build quality is so so. But this one creaks a bit when wearing the ‘phones. Not a very good thing. Sennheiser should do better. But once you hear the music these small issues will be forgotten for sure.
