This review is for the HP 2FB96A 2 in 1/Sprocket 2-in-1 Portable Photo Printer & Instant Camera. This is the model that is instant camera and printer in one. I will refer to it as the Sprocket 2-in-1 from here on out. I received this product in exchange for my honest opinion — which as always is entirely my own!
Quick Summary: This is the perfect instant photo printer for parents on-the-go, kids, scrapbookers and those who love decorating their paper planners/journals! It is also great for do-it-yourself photo booths at parties! Set up was a breeze! Printer, camera and picture quality are great for the value and size of this product.
EASY TO SET UP: This was easy to set up straight out of the box. The instructions included are very basic — “this is how you charge the Sprocket 2-in-1” basic. Fortunately, once you download the HP Sprocket app, all instructions are included. Pairing the Sprocket 2-in-1 to my iPhone via the HP Sprocket app was as easy as 1-2-3. I had no issues getting my phone and the printer to connect. The HP Sprocket app is AWESOME. I love that you can see, edit and customize your pictures in the app. There is also a “live view” for shooting and printing pictures immediately.
PRINTER QUALITY: The printer is sturdy and seems well-made. It is small enough to fit in any bag, lightweight and I *LOVE* the white and rose gold color-way. What can I say? I’m a millennial through and through! I am a sucker for rose gold.
The Sprocket 2-in-1 prints VERY quickly! I don’t know why I expect it to take longer than it did, but I was surprised by how quickly it printed my photos. It is also relatively quiet.
CAMERA QUALITY: There is not much to say about this. It is a basic, low megapixel camera. The quality is akin to that of an old cell phone. I love that my daughter can print pictures without needing her own cell phone. She used it a ton during her birthday party! The kids LOVED taking pictures and printing them immediately.
I would have liked for this to include some kind of case, especially since it was a lens. Even a thin “sleeve” would have been greatly appreciated. I don’t mind buying one, but a small drawstring sleeve or case would really elevate the quality to another level!
PICTURE QUALITY: I’m quite surprised at the many reviews that mention poor quality. I went into this expecting exactly what I received. I think the quality is great for a printer of this size! The prints remind me of the instant photos from my childhood, with better quality and clarity. The better the original photo is, the better your final print will be. Use the HP Sprocket app’s editing features to your advantage! Pictures are not as sharp or bright as the originals, but I wasn’t expecting them to be. Most pictures will also print with much warmer tones than what you see on your phone. You can combat that by brightening them and adjusting the contrast in the editor.
I absolutely love that the photo paper is sticky, and of course this feature was a huge hit with the kids! If you don’t want your picture to be “stickers”, you can simply opt for not peeling off the backing. However, I really enjoy having the option of making my pictures stickers that I can include in my planner or that my daughter can use to decorate her folders, books or walls! I am not a scrapbooker, but I can imagine that this would be an amazing gift and product for scrapbookers. You can also edit the pictures in the app and add borders, words and illustrations to them — again, perfect for those who are creative!
I think the Sprocket 2-in-1 would be great for a do it yourself photo booth! I love that with the Sprocket 2-in-1 you don’t need to have WiFi connection or a cell phone connected to it in order to use it as a photo booth because of the built-in camera.
I have included a picture of one of my printed photos in my planner. I used the “sticker” feature to stick it to one of my dividers. The paper is very sticky and is definitely secure in my planner.
Please note: Pictures are very small. They are 2 x 3 inches. I think some of the promo pictures make them look bigger than they are. They are definitely not “full size” pictures. They cost approximately .50 a piece. I am hoping to find the photo printer on special and stocking up then!
Overall, this is a fantastic product that I would definitely buy again. I know my family will get a ton of use out of it. My daughter is obsessed with it and I love that it allows her to express her creative side.

The idea is great how ever the photos are a bit yellow (when took indors) lets keep in mind that it is not for professional photos this is for fun that said itbis a great fun little camera / printer I love that it is both we can print from our phone or snap a picture and have it print immediatley. It would be nice to know exactly what your shooting or be able to see it before it prints guess we went old school lol
I had to call HP after 20 min of use because it stopped working no power wouldnt charge nothing after the firmware update. So we shall see would be 4 stars other wise

Immediately after unboxing our HP 2-in-1 Sprocket my kids we excited and eager to test it out. The packaging was appealing and fairly simple to open. It fits right in the palm of your hand. The product comes with a charging cord that looks extremely durable, almost like it’s encased in a knot, as well as a wrist handle, and a 10 pack of zink photo paper. This particular seller includes an additional 20 pack which is great for experimenting. All we had to do was connect the wristband, charge it up, and play!
I love that my 4 and 6 year old kiddos were able to figure out how to use the camera right off the bat. After setting up the app on my iPhone we started to take photos both using the app and on the 2-in-1 device. They loved watching the photos come out. My daughter immediately placed one on her school binder.
I want to say the quality of the photos came out better when taken on my phone as opposed to when taken on the actual camera, but I’m still playing around with it.
The Sprocket in my eyes does the job, it does as it’s promised. I love that we you can take fun photos, print them immediately and stick them anywhere. The photo paper is made of Zink so there’s no need for an ink cartridge, which I must say blew me away.
Granite the photo quality is not the very best; it’s more for instantaneous fun and I can see myself and my family having a lot of fun with it. It’s all about the memories, instant access, and completing the project with this product.
The app allows you to add additional layers and also provides a photo booth setting where you can take 4 photos right after the other in one sitting, again another feature I’ll be playing around with.
Make sure your mark that you want your photos from the app to autosave to your camera feed so you don’t lose anything special. I made that mistake right away. I think the Sprocket is perfect for scrapbooking projects, crafting, and especially for creating your dream boards for the year. I can totally see myself using this at events, perhaps as a way for people to take their photos and sign a guestbook, or passing it around just for the fun of it.
I received this product in exchange for my honest review, and honestly I have nothing but great things to say about it so far. My only wish is the photos came out clearer and perhaps they consider dropping the price a bit. I can’t wait to explore the many ways I’ll can use this product.

This is a fun little handheld traveling printer. The paper has a sticky back making it very easy to share the prints with others.
The print quality is what I would expect from a handheld printer. The colors show but they aren’t a perfect match. I’m not using this to print out professional quality prints, however, it’s fun for our family and kids. I found the quality of the pictures taken with the camera on the printer to be lower quality and darker, so I would use that in a pinch, but prefer the pictures taken with my phone.
The app keeps telling me I need up update the firmware, but I’ve done it a couple times, so I think there might be a bug with it. I was able to delete the message and move on.
The app also has fun editing software for adding cute borders, text, color edits and more. The kids definitely want to keep using it.
I had issues first getting it to turn off, but once I found the reset button (where the paper goes in) and reset it, it was working as expected.
Overall, it’s a fun printer with the camera option that makes quick and easy prints a breeze.

“I love this camera” is what my eight year old daughter told me as we used the Sprocket 2 in 1 together. I have to agree with her. This little gadget is a ton of fun to use. I can see why it is so appealing to her. Her generation hardly ever sees actual print photographs. Their world is digital. She’s too young to have a phone and I don’t let her take her tablet to school, so she does not have the opportunity to show her classmates her new toy or what she did last weekend. This device changes all that. She loved being able to take and print her photos independently. The sticky backed prints were the icing on the cake….she had a blast decorating her binder to show her friends at school all of her favorite things.
If you’re still not entirely sure what it is or what all it does, think of it as a Polaroid camera for the 21st century. I definitely had flashbacks of my own childhood and the thrill of instantly developing my own photos on the spot. The Sprocket 2 in 1 can be used two ways to print your photos in seconds. One way is to use it as a camera. Pop open the view finder, click to take a picture, and your photo will instantly start printing. The other way to use it is with your phone or tablet and the free Sprocket app. The app gives you the added bonus of editing your image, adding stickers, drawing on it, and adding other fun effects. Once your picture looks the way you want it to, send it to your Sprocket (link up using Bluetooth) and it will print.
Personally, I preferred using the app, but it does take away the fun of an “instant” photo. The downside to using the Sprocket as a camera for me was that you don’t get to preview the image before it prints. As soon as you click to take the picture, it starts printing. The view finder is a little small and hard to see through, so we wasted 3 of the 10 sheets in the first pack on bad or poorly aligned photos. The paper isn’t super cheap so I hated to waste a single sheet. The Sprocket comes with 10 photo papers, and this bundle adds another 20 sheets, so you will have a total of 30 prints with this package.
The camera is astonishingly good, though. Much better than I expected given how much is packed into this compact device. I took outdoor pictures late in the day, as the sun was setting on an overcast day. The pictures were very vivid and colorful. We tried an action shot, where my daugther was twirling around, and the photo was perfectly clear. We expected her to be a blur but you can see her face clearly. I love that it can capture movement so well because that means this will be great to take along on family vacations so I can capture clear images of my kids. My daughter took pictures of her toys indoors, and the camera does have a flash. The images were bright and clear.
The device has a beautiful design and is easy to hold and use. I love the white and rose gold finish! It even comes with a carrying strap, which I attached later. It might sound weird to talk about the charging cord, but this is the prettiest one I’ve ever seen. It has what looks like a fabric finish and rose gold accents. I think this design will hold up better than my plastic cords that always seem to break. The Sprocket is roughly the size of a smartphone, though slightly thicker. It fit easily in my back pocket.
My daughter spent the rest of the evening choosing and taking pictures of some of her favorite things, editing some photos on the app to add fun overlays, and then printing and sticking them to her school binder. Once my 6 year old saw what she was doing, he had to try it, too. This device is very user friendly and especially perfect for anyone who doesn’t have or doesn’t know how to use a printer. If you are looking for a gift to give someone who seems to have everything, this is a good choice. This would make a great gift for kids and tweens, especially. That doesn’t mean I’m just going to let me kids have mine, though….I really like this gadget, too. This will be great for vacations, especially if you journal. I’m excited to take this on our next trip so I can take pictures, peel of the backing to stick them in my journal, and jot my memories down next to the photo. It’s something the whole family can do together. Because, really, how many times do you come home after a trip and print your photos? This will make it easier to preserve and share those memories. It would also be great for school events and photo booths.
I’m attaching some pictures from our first day using the Sprocket 2 in 1. These are pictures of photos, so they are a little darker than they appear in real life, but hopefully it will give you an idea of the quality of the photo.
Disclosure: I received the product at no cost in exchange for my honest review. I honestly love this device and am excited to use it as much as possible.
