Best monitor for gaming as well as editing under budget

For the first time ever, I upgraded from a 27 inch monitor to a… 27 inch monitor. I decided to go for an IPS panel with at least a 144hz refresh rate and <2ms response time, and this one fit the bill. Plus, it's made by Gigabyte, one of my favorite component manufacturers. I opted for a 1080p set, which to me looks perfectly crisp at the distance I sit from my monitor.
The installation took me much longer than expected, which brings me to the first small issue – even though the monitor is VESA-mount compatible, with a standard 100×100 pattern, the mounting holes are recessed in the back. This meant that the M4 screws from my existing universal wall mount were too short (by about a half inch) to work, even though they worked perfectly with my previous monitor. I scrounged around my tool box, odds and ends drawer, and cable bag and lucked out by finding one the perfect length and diameter to lock the tilt, and three that were too long, but still worked as support screws.
Once the mounting was done, I connected it to my nvidia 1060 card via HDMI cable, booted the computer up, and crossed my fingers. To my surprise windows correctly identified the monitor, and I was up and running in no time. I had no luck getting G-SYNC to work over HDMI, so I switched to the included Display Port cable, and it worked like a charm. Knock on wood, no dead or stuck pixels! I did a little adjusting of the image (mainly lowering the brightness and switching to a different gamma setting), but I was impressed with the image quality out of the box, to be honest.
Great colors, more than bright enough, and no ghosting. The only issue with the quality is light bleed – it’s noticeable on the left side of the screen during very dark scenes/transitions (not uncommon with IPS panels), but not enough to make it lose more than half a star.
I was also impressed with the included cables – HDMI, DP, USB, and an alternate power cable. I would highly recommend plugging the USB cable in even if you don’t use the built-in hub – it lets you run OSD sidekick (Google it to download it from Gigabyte), meaning you can control the monitor’s features and settings via mouse + keyboard, using the OSD program. You can even set up hotkeys for various features, so you don’t have to fiddle around the back of the monitor to mess with the joystick control.
So far I am very happy with my first Gigabyte monitor, and it’s an easy recommendation if you plan to stick around in 1080p land for a while longer.

I just bought three of these and am really impressed. Very little backlight bleed for IPS panels. Not a single dead pixel on any of them. The OSD Sidekick software works, but you can’t use it when connected to multiple monitors, it seems. Not really a big loss because the joystick on the back is easy to use. The software is a cool idea and maybe will get more useful with updates.
That’s the only real complaint I have, and it’s not a big deal.
This is the first monitor I’ve ever had that has USB ports, believe it or not. I tried putting a thumb drive in one, but the way they’re placed it’s hard to reach behind there to stick them in.
You will have to do some adjustments. The picture out of the box isn’t really that good. I set the brightness to 25, turn off the gamma, set color balance to 100, 99, 95, and use an ICC profile I found on the internet. All three look great after two minutes of adjusting.
If you’re wondering whether or not 1080p is good enough for 27 inches, it’s really not. I’ll get used to it. Either way it’s not the fault of this monitor. Just something to think about if you’re trying to decide between the 24″ and 27″ versions.
Oh and I’m using a triple monitor mount, but did use the stand for a day on one of the monitors and it seemed pretty good. It doesn’t rotate but you should be able to unscrew the stand and mount it vertically.

The monitor is not supporting a laptop which has 60hz refresh. Sometimes the Display disappears and have to change the refresh rate to work again with the monitor.
It has a big bezel – even though the frame looks slim when it’s off – plastic frame occupies 5 mm and 5mm of panel not usable for display – totally 20mm frame (right 10mm + left 10mm frame) is not usable from both sides. They would have been given with a thick frame. Bottom side 17mm is covered by plastic and 10mm not usable for display. If unusable space would have been reduced then I would have looked slightly smaller..
Speaker sound is very low and can’t be used.
Height adjustable is a useful feature – I bought this monitor because of this.
Text looks blurry – if someone upgrades the monitor from 21,24 to 27inches then definitely you will feel text is blurred. Not good for reading.

Gigabyte G27F 1080P
Edit: Returned it. Backlight bleed was too distracting.
Decent looking monitor. Bright, clear, sharp, colours pop. Fully loaded with adjustable menu options for gamers. Custom picture profiles, built in speakers, headphone jack. The monitor can get very bright, and it can also get very DIM. Great for eye sensitive people like myself that plays games in dimly lit room! Although it makes IPS glow more noticeable when dim.
Biggestt Con with the monitor is that there’s severe backlight bleed! It’s pretty bad, and it’s definitely noticeable on dark backgrounds. Panel lottery dictates how good or bad it’ll be. I received a replacement hoping it would be better, but it wasn’t. The monitor performs at its best when used in a well lit room, so that the backlight bleed is less noticeable. I’ve attached a picture showcasing how bad it is. Keep in mind that the camera over exaggerates it a bit. I took the images at a distance so that the IPS glow wouldn’t interfere with the picture as much. There’s also a stuck red pixel on the top middle of the screen as well. Quality control is pretty horrendous. Ultimately I did keep the monitor, as it’s still good value for the money. If you purchase this monitor, hopefully you’ll have better luck than I did!
~~Edit: I thought I’d add this to help others. Windows may oversaturate the colours, especially Red due to this monitor having a wider colour gamut. There’s an sRGB mode that fixes this. However you’re limited to only adjusting brightness in the options menu when enabled. Also, you must update the firmware to version 3, as version 2’s sRGB mode is broken(colours remain oversaturated when selected. (Google Gigabyte G27F firmware update, it’s on Gigabytes G27F official product page)-(Requires the included USB cable to update firmware.)– You can somewhat fix the oversaturated colours within the other picture options. Change Gamma setting to “Gamma 2”. Reduce the “Color Vibrance” setting to “8”. Also I changed my RGB to R73 G75 B75. Gamma was too bright when left at 100RGB.
It’s worth noting that Amazon opting to ship this monitor from the States into Canada with free shipping is appreciated. Took about four days for the first monitor, and another four for the replacement. I would’ve been extremely disappointed had I purchased this monitor from the competition with terrible return policies. Excellent service from Amazon as always.

It’s a decent price range, especially for what it is. Took me a bit to set it up, since I wasn’t using an HDMI cord for my display. Had more to do with my computer’s cable connection port, though. Overall, good product.
