The external USB powered optical disc drive by Tyywgd / Tyytus is made in PRC (china). The drive inside the enclosure I received is a Panasonic Matshita blue ray burner model BD-MLT UJ240ES with firmware 1.20 installed (most recent is 1003, but is no longer downloadable from Panasonic’s support site). The SATA drive itself is made in the Phillipines in June of 2010 and is hardware version 1.00 according to the label on the drive itself. The case has two screws on the back underside by the usb hub (remove the rubber feet to expose the screw holes), and slide the top cover to the back to unlock the case. The label on top of the drive states the model is a UJ240. This drive does not support reading the 4K UHD blue ray discs, as I was unable to read any of my UHD movies with this drive with MakeMKV. The drive is a slim line (12.7mm) BluRay / DVD / CD recordable drive in a thin plastic case with a USB hub. I was only able to read and use dual layer BD-RE DL media with this drive (50GB), and was unable to get any 100GB blue ray media to read or write with the UJ240 drive. I did find that I could read and write M-Disc DVD media with this drive. I found the speed claims to be as claimed, writing single layer DVDs at 8x and single layer BD discs at 6x speed.
The drive is powered from the attached USB-A/C combo cable or via the included USB-C cable plugged into the back of the drive’s USB-C port. I used both Windows 7 and 10 computers with this drive, but only select software like Roxio, Nero, and MakeMKV seemed to work with this drive. The rubber feet on the bottom do not dampen the vibration when writing at full speed enough, and I found a small book on top did the trick to quiet the drive.
This drive does not match the 100 GB bluray disc support. I could not find any place to download more recent firmware for this drive. The unit worked for me and performed well with CD, DVD, and blue ray (non-UHD and only single/dual layer media) discs. I do not think this is a good value since it does not deliver on the claimed quad layer blue ray discs, as that would require a UJ260 drive not included in this unit.

It’s incredibly versatile – plays and burns Blu-rays, DVDs, and CDs, plus it has SD and TF card slots. Super easy to use, just plug and play. Sleek and compact, perfect for travel. Highly recommend for anyone needing an optical drive for their laptop or desktop!

I wish I had read the reviews before buying cause this thing just flat out doesn’t work at all. It won’t read disks and the ones it does read it won’t play at all. Honestly the only thing it’s really good for is being used as a coaster or as a shelf for literally anything else.

i was really needing one of this computers now a day don’t come with cd readers and is very helpful, call me old school but this save my bacon a couple of times already. It also has usb ports and is well build.

Received player in good condition. Player had problems working consistently. Manufacture support was very good, as they sent video and emails in response to my inquires in trying to get the player to work properly. I did give up on the player and bought a different one. I gave them a higher rating because the communication was good.
