The HDD is very light and fast. The outer casing is a little weak, but it can protect the internals from accidental shocks. Buying a carrying case for the device is recommended. Write and Read speeds are fine.

Defective product from IT Galore (Dec2023). vendor did not fullfill 1-for-1 exchange promise. I am stuck without refund (or new unit) after 11 MONTHS !
received beige colored toshiba canvio advance 4TB external hdd today. ran 2 diagnostic/QC tests, using win8.1 on a dell desktopPC , outcomes are below:
TEST 1
– Drive detected as “TOSHIBA EXT”
– Drives/Properties/Tools/Error Checking (chkdisk) = passed
– Format NTFS (default, unchanged), Allocation 4096 bytes (unchanged), Quick Format (un-checked ) = FAIL (after 7+ hours)
– Error Message = “Windows was unable to complete the format”
Reboot PC
TEST 2 (using same options as TEST 1)
– Drive detected as “TOSHIBA EXT”
– Drives/Properties/Tools/Error Checking (chkdisk) = passed
– Format NTFS (default, unchanged), Allocation 4096 bytes (unchanged), Quick Format (un-checked ) = FAIL (after 7+ hours)
– Error Message = “Windows was unable to complete the format”

I’m returning this product, the internal hdd is a SATA II, yes SATA II which was first released in 2004.
It’s capped at 3Gb/s which is the universal accepted speed 15 years ago and more.
Unfortunately this product is marketed as a SuperSpeed Drive with USB 3.1 support.
In today’s world this is like buying a car with a top speed of 30km/h
This is just a pair of long socks not for winters and not at all suitable for winter treks –
good product.

not only do i like the look and the small size, it was also faster than my previous 2TB
