Over the years I’ve purchased a total of twelve Lacie 5TB Rugged Orange External Hard Drives, and they have been an absolute lifesaver for storing and backing up my videos, photos, and podcast recordings—especially while traveling. These drives are built to last, and the bright orange color makes them easy to spot, so I never worry about leaving one behind.
Why This Hard Drive is a Must-Have:
If you’re a content creator, photographer, videographer, or podcaster looking for a rugged, reliable, and high-capacity external hard drive, the Lacie 5TB Rugged is the way to go.
I highly recommend it and will continue using these for all my storage needs!

Ask any professional photographer, one of your biggest fears is memory card failure, loss or theft. The LaCie Boss fives me a quick and safe way to copy all my files immediately to a secure SSD drive at any time at a shoot.
I also, with the attached cable system, use the LaCie to do quick edits on my iPad and watch movies during long flights.

I am a photographer and purchased two of these (5TB each) to use as my main backup. I figured the transfer speeds would be better with USB-C connectivity with my Mac.
Within a few months, my computer had trouble recognising the drive with more recent backups and, hence, more used, as the USB-C port failed. Seagate had sent me a replacement drive, which was not a new one but a certified repair product. Soon, my second drive failed too, and not too long after, the replacement drive failed too. All of them had the problem of the port going bad. I now have two replacement drives from Seagate, and I don’t know how long these will last. Needless to say, I no longer use these Lacie drives for my primary backups.
Stay away from these drives.
