If buying for gaming or other single cored work load buy 7800x3d its much better for them and it has literal better fps for games

Bought it from the local shop at 52K and my use case VM and similar workload, not gaming and really regretting my decision of buying x3D because it will rarely use all 16/32 core even in full load because of improper CCX implementation with high 3D cache. Only for gaming where it will put half of the core on sleep and boot game fps using high L3 cache cores. For me waist of money as I was getting 7950x at 38.5K only. Paired it with 128GiG of DDR5 XMP memory from G.Skill, but that is limiting at 3600MT/s only, somehow managed to push it till 5000MT/s.

fastest gaming CPU – that is Tom’s Hardware’s opinion: and so far it has lived up to that for me. I got this on sale for only $10 more than the 7900 and it was very much worth it! AMD has managed to make this thing deliver at a remarkably low 95W TDP as well – quite remarkable. Happily your socket AM4 cooler with fit on your new motherboard, although in my case it required a trip to the hardware store to buy 4 metric bolts (the backplate is now integral, and for some coolers, like my TT waterblock, you have to screw into the backplate directly).
Did you pick up on the “new motherboard” comment? You’re going to need one – AMD has moved to LGA rather than PGA for their new chips and socket AM5, and they only support DDR5 as well, so you’re going to need some new RAM – BUT if you don’t cheap out, buy a high-end board and EXPO certified RAM and get ready to launch moon rockets, or anything else your heart desires, with a very very fast system.

At first I was skeptical on the performance of the 7950x3d from what I’ve elsewhere in games, but paired with process lasso I have yet to see any issues. Boot times are said to be 5~10 minutes long, not once have I ran into that. Boots in less than a minute. Perfect cpu for both gaming and work.
