This is definitely a great device for anyone looking to start out with streaming or recording for gaming or other similar activities. It comes with an hdmi and usb 3.0 cable already so it is very likely you won’t need to go out to get any other cables as long as you already have an hdmi connecting your console or device to the tv and a laptop handy.

The setup is very simple, just plug an hdmi from your console to the “in” input of the capture card, then the plug an hdmi from your tv to the “out” input of the capture card. Finally, connect your usb 3.0 from your capture card to your computer’s usb 3.0 port (or higher). To actually get the device recording all you need is to use recording software, OBS is an excellent choice since it is free, open source, and doesn’t come with a lot of bloatware that other alternatives come with. Getting OBS to work for me was extremely simple, I just added a new source and selected this device and bam, the console’s view showed up.

For quality, I found it was just fine. I tested up to 1080p recording and had no issues with my sessions. The frame rates were stable and I noticed no loss of quality from the recording. It should be noted that while the device supports 4K@60Hz input, the manual itself states that the highest achievable acquisition for the device is actually 1080p@60Hz, which makes sense considering the actual recording is going over usb 3.0 after all. So, despite the 4K stamped on the device it’s probably a much safer bet to treat it as a 1080p device, which is perfectly fine since most users are watching videos online in 1080p anyways.

I’m sure that you could try your luck and actually record in 4K (I did not test that) but I highly doubt you will get a smooth or stable experience.

I recommend this device for beginners and as long as you’re happy with 1080p recording (which is perfectly fine for most content) then this device is for you.

Streams well with the OBS software. I watched a youtube video to help me adjust the settings for best results for my application. It works exactly as advertised. Could’ve maybe used a longer USB 3.0 cable, but that’s ok.

I am slowly collecting USB capture cards because I am fascinated by them (when I was younger capture cards were outrageously expensive and anything affordable wasn’t very good) and this one is comparable to most. It captures audio and images clearly, I use it with a free (but very popular) program, playing games on my monitor is a nice treat and often what I use my capture cards for if I’m not feeling up to couch-gaming.

Nothing I own is 4K–my monitors nor my TV have that resolution so I have no clue how this card actually outputs in 4K. 1400p and 1080p though looks beautiful!

The only issue I’ve had with this card (and none of my other cards) is that sometimes, seemingly randomly, the frame rate tanks where the card only passes through like 10 frames per section instead of the 60 I expect from most things running through it. Usually unplugging it, giving it a minute, and plugging it back in fixes it but it’s really odd that it happens at all and this is not a problem I’ve encountered with any of my other USB capture cards. I may have gotten a bad one, or it might be a design flaw, it’s hard to say. There are plenty of other capture cards on here for a similar price that do not have this issue so while this one works I almost recommend you look into other options, just in case.

So overall: Feels solid, works well… except for when it doesn’t!
