I upgraded my boot drive from a Gen 3 Western Digital Blue to Gen 4 Kingston Renegade and notice a major difference right away. I reinstall Kubuntu (Linux) again and noticed a big difference. Right now my game drive is Gen 3 but plan on buying either a 2tb or 4tb version of the Renegade. I must if your motherboard and cpu will support it.

Great M.2 drive but the heat spreader has gaps over the controller and DRAM so a heat sink on top will keep the NAND memory modules cool and the controller not so cool, which is the opposite of what is needed for long life.
Controllers generate the most heat and overheating them is what shortens the life of an SSD.
On the other hand, the memory NAND modules should be warm during read/write operation for longest life.
This M.2 stick has NAND that is 0.5mm taller than the DRAM and controller and that is what creates the gap. I was able to use my thumbnail to make a crease in the heat spreader so that the spreader now contacts all the chips. But, now the heat sink that came with my MSI B550 motherboard does not fully contact the heat spreader.
One solution is to cut a piece of the silicone heat-transfer strip to completely cover the controller and DRAM chips and cut a thin strip to partly cover and bridge the two NAND chips and provide some cooling, but not too much. This way the heat sink can be on a slight angle and still provide cooling for all chips. But, I did not like that the provided heat sink did not apply much pressure (if at all) to the M.2 SSD so I bought a heat sink (ASIN B09V2BT5XG) that sandwiches the SSD and has six screws in oval slots to allow a slight tilt to overcome the height differences in the m.2 chips. With the six screws I can squeeze the silicone pad a bit so that all the chips get cooling. I will still put only a small bridging piece of silicone pad over the two NAND modules to keep them slightly warmer.
FYI: This particular M.2 SSD has the controller closest to the contacts with the DRAM next to it. The NAND chips are at the opposite end, farthest from the contacts.
