Good product with excellent features

I should have known by the added “bulk” at the end. Though usually that just means no fancy packaging. There was no disk included. Not an issue for drivers anymore. But the burning software that usually comes with these drives did not. And, it cannot be obtained from the LG website due to “licensing constraints”. Great drive, but a little bummed.

The The LG HLDS WH16NS58DUP works real well for what it was made for. I also have the LG WH16NS40 writer. They both work exceptionally well. I cannot say one is better than the other since they both work flawlessly. I also have purchased the Mercury Pro external enclosure that works perfectly for both these model drives. For all my Blu-ray burning needs…I stick with the LG brand burners. They have never failed me or made a single coaster. Both these drives support burning to M-DISC. I have read M-DISCs burned with both these model drives on other blu-ray readers and they are read perfectly. As a seasoned 30+ year computer technician. I approve this message.

This installed without a hitch and worked fine the first time with no trouble at all. I like it!

I bought this drive to upgrade my PC to be able to read BluRay disks. I have another older PC with this same drive in it and it has worked perfectly since it was installed several years ago.
This drive in the version I bought came as an OEM package, without any software. Windows 11 recognized it right away. Installation ease depends on your case. My case happens to be tool free so it just slid in and I had to latch two retainers to lock it in, and plug in the cables. If your case has a location that makes reaching the sides for screw attachment difficult it will be harder to install.
Testing revealed that the drive could read both DVD disks and BluRay disks but the PC wouldn’t play BluRay movies. After a bit of research I found that Microsoft quit including the ability to play BluRay disks in Windows. I searched online and found some free software that worked just fine.
LG has announced it will stop producing BluRay players, like you hook up to your PC, in 2024. They feel that streaming has reduced the need for BluRay players. I don’t know if this applies to PC drives as well. I do know it’s getting harder to get a PC case that has bays for optical drives.
In summary, if you need a reliable optical drive I can recommend this one. If you feel that you need an optical drive check the general availability of these drives so you can get one of any brand before they are discontinued.
