Although I might install this Blu-Ray Writer in my newly built desktop, I really bought it “just in case.” I still have a number of burned Blu-Ray and DVD discs and many blanks, so I want to have a good optical drive available. I gave this drive a test run using a kit that allows it to be run externally. It performed beautifully. Quiet, responsive tray, easily read all of the written discs that I tried, and burned some data to an old DVD+RW disc without issues. Have yet to try burning a Blu-Ray disc but will soon when doing some archiving. So far I am very pleased with this drive. I hope it lasts as long as a similar Pioneer drive I bought 10 years ago.
