Amazon keeps damaging my drives on delivery so I cannot say whether these are awesome or not since they die within 6 months, but that is just between me and amazon and not much to do with Western Digital. Just leaving a buyer beware that you should purchase these elsewhere if you can or else you will have headaches in the future.
When the drive was working in my system is seemed great. No video loss, no crazy long load times to access footage. Shame that amazon has to keep damaging them and I have to keep reinstalling new ones in my security system years before the warranty is up. WD only offers refurbished drives but I think that is unacceptable considering the circumstances. I may take them up on the offer just so I don’t have to fork out another 120-150 dollars for a new drive but I am definitely feeling like I am being taken advantage of.

I got read errors on this from the very first day. SMART extended scan also failed. Since each scan takes more than 24 hours and I wanted to be sure, I missed the 10 day claim window with Amazon. So now I have to claim warranty with WD and return it to them at my own cost.
Also the packaging wasn’t done very well. It was wrapped in bubble wrap but not enough to really protect it from drops and we all know how the packages are handled on the way. I would recommend buying it from elsewhere who know how hard disks are supposed to be handled and can support you if needed.

This is a surveillance centric HDD. Great for storing huge data continuously. Gives more than a month of surveillance footage for a 16 Camera system in Full HD.
