Shipped quickly, and in proper packaging for a hard drive. The box had additional paperwork talking about the importance of backups and how to actually mount it in windows, as well as printed out troubleshooting steps with various website links. They definitely care about their product and helping people properly use it!
Despite doing a preclear burn in of the drive, it never got that warm, which is surprising given it’s a 7200rpm drive that isn’t listed it as helium. I guess with so much aluminum (the images don’t do it’s chonkiness justice), it’s no surprise it can dissipate that heat so well. More random reads/writes will push it better, but so far this has kept cooler than other Seagate or WD drives I’ve put though this so far.
Reliability is going to be something that only time will tell, but given they back this drive up with a 3 year warranty, which is more than other, bigger players warranty their external drives, and they offer it at such a low price for the size? I admit I couldn’t resist trying this out. I’ll be updating this review if things go south.
UPDATE:
The drive is still trucking along just fine. I ended up buying another one of the same, and both drives are the best performing, and coolest running, of any other drive I have in my Unraid array. Honestly, I wish there were higher capacity versions from whatever manufacturer makes this, because I’d love to have 2 of them as my parity drives.
The first two pictures in this review are of the first drive when it was initially purchased, then the update in early November 2021. The second drive is one I bought a couple months ago, which is also still just fine. You mileage will always vary with used drives, but so far it’s been pretty good with these.
UPDATE 2:
Drives are still going strong! Uploaded 2 new images of what the current drive stats are after over a year of use for one, and nearly 1 year for the other.

I have been buying MDD drives in pairs.
Of the first pair of drives I bought, one was giving read errors out of the box.. returned. Purchased a replacement.
Of the first pair of drives I bought, the second (non-replacement) drive has already failed (unrecoverable.)
The “replacement drive” began showing SMART errors, and was making whining noises. Read errors caused caused _significant_ NAS delays.
Of the second pair of drives I bought, both are reporting SMART errors. I am awaiting their failure.
Of the third pair of drives I have bought, one is reporting SMART errors, the other is making “seek grinding” sounds even during idle periods like it was a 5.25″ floppy from the early 80s.
All of this within a 3-6 month period. Brand claims their refurbs would last 3 years, this failure rate is actually worse than buying non-refurb used drives — which I will now go back to doing, because I was getting drives without SMART failures and which were lasting me several years. That these MDDs are giving SMART errors, degrading performance, or outright failing within MONTHS tells me MDD started with bad drives and is wiping the SMART data and then selling them to consumers hoping they won’t notice what has been done. Disreputable. Unacceptable. Buyer beware.

I ordered three of these drives a few months ago and they all arrived in perfect packaging for a HDD. They had some accommodating documentation which was nice to see, but not relevant to my use case.
I bought them at a really good price for the storage capacity and performance of the drive, and knew I was going to use them for a not-so-standard use case. My use case is a Home NAS and I am running them in RaidZ. Thinking about the low price, I expected to have lower performance or results on these. I was wrong.
I was very pleasantly surprised that these disks actually outperformed my Seagate 12TB 7200 HDDs for Read, Copy on Write and Write. Thermals were all looking real good over the last few months, reaching a MAX of 39 degrees Celsius.
Fast forward 4 months and my NAS started to let me know that one of the three disks is having some trouble with frequent read errors. Did some diagnostics and it turns out the drive is definitely having some physical issues.
I reached out to the folks at goHardDrive and they responded very quickly. Asking only for the serial number on the drive, they sent me a pickup label to ship the drive back and have it replaced. That already being great service, I was a difficult customer because of the way I am using the disks. I explained my situation to them and they accommodated me completely. They went above and beyond what I expected would have been reasonable.
These drives are good, not the best, far from the worst. If for nothing else, I will definitely support Mike and the folks at goHardrive again based on their great customer support.
This is a solid buy at a good cost and is backed by very good customer support.

Ordered one about 2 months ago and it never initialized. If I could get computer to boot, it would crash. Promptly returned drive for a refund which I recieved as soon as Amazon got the package.
Fast forward 2 months and after debating on what avenue to take, I ordered another one, inadverdently from the same vendor! Not expecting much, I took it out of the secure shipping package, installed, and walla! All is fine. Initialized right away, CrystalDisk says it has 4 boots on it (one of which was mine) and ZERO hours! So essentially, I got a new drive. YMMV.
I use this in a Win11 PC in a Windows Storage Space that is used for a NAS. It has a total of 28TB (now). It is currently transferring files to the new drive (optimizing is what they call it). No noise, temps are 85F. So I recommend these for poor folks like me with the caveat that, you may, in fact, get a bad one. They are kinda hit and miss. If you get a bad one, don’t panic, just send it back for a replacement or refund. The warranty inside the box says 3 years, from DBSKY INC. I may just get another one now.
