no surprises, as expected, works flawlessly, used it to program atmega8A with some test programs using Avrdude software installed with winavr. you can also use eXtreme Burner, very useful software — it uses avrdude in the background but gives a very convenient IDE and visual front end for burning flash , eeprom or fuses into the microcontroller. USB-ASP programmer can be used to program all ATMEGA and ATTINY range of AVR MCUs (except only the MCUs that cannot accept ISP mode of programming such as : ATtiny11, ATtiny28, ATmega406). Every other mainstream AVR should be supportable by the USBasp. When using this programmer you can pull out the jumper pin that is used to supply 5V to target board (board containing MPU to be programmed) and supply independent DC power to target board. This avoids risk of overloading the power supply of your USB port on laptop which is already supplying the USB-ASP programmer or in case an inadvertent short should exist on your target board (highly recommended procedure).
