Firewire card came in not working. I tried it in 2 separate Computers and it did not work in either. was going to send for a replacement but I would have to drive 40 miles round trip to get this bad one to a ups store for return. I could pay for pick up but i only spent $25. on the card. I’m not gone spend another $7.50 to ship it back. My loss.

It’s 2023. If you know what this is, and you have a need for it, rest assured this one works and is reasonably priced.
But, really, its 2023. The odds that you need a PCIe Firewire 400 card is pretty low. But if you do need it, you *really* need it and this is a good option.

This card runs my old firewire audio capture devices perfectly. I did have to find the drivers myself on the manufactures website, run the installer in compatibility mode. Now, the devices run perfectly and I was able to run the devices flawlessly.
I had invested significantly few years ago in firewire audio equipment and had been keeping a really old computer with firewire support in the motherboard. I wanted to use a newer computer with more modern features and faster processor but this firewire port is not really made anymore. However, with this card the devices are working flawless and I can run my devices in my new computer.
You install it in your motherboard PCIE slot and it shows up as “Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller” in device manager without needing any other change. Then, it’s just plugging in more devices and they should also show up in device manager. If the driver isn’t found, it will show up with a question mark and you have to find the driver for the device and it will start working. Windows 7 drivers work fine with Windows 10/11.
Overall, great device and the old devices work great with this.

Came very nicely packaged, and everything arrived in condition as it came in the standard Amazon envelope.
It fit nicely into the open PCIE slot in my computer. However after several attempts to start the computer and activate it, I couldn’t get the computer to start. Removing the card solved the problem. I believe I need to correct a setting in my bios to solve this, and will do so when I have more time. otherwise it looks like a good card and I hope once I have it running I will be able to hook up my Sony 8mm Camcorder.

Wish this had FW800 as well but this card works just fine for FW400 devices. Rare to see both full height and low profile brackets included. Nice! Using a SSD in a FireWire enclosure I could only get 30MB l/s write and 40MB/s read. This must be a limitation of the card or FW400 as the ssd and pcie slot can handle much more throughput.
Overall a nice card. Cable included!
