I bought this card to replace my previous MSI RTX 3090Ti Gaming Trio. I had high hopes since these cards were widely available and I remember owning a nice Zotac 2080 back in the day.
Upon receiving the card the unboxing was easy though some of the stickers left behind some residue on the card which I had to clean off.
Installation was easy and applying the right drivers was effortless.
Before I did any gaming, the card was in 0% mode (fans don’t spin until it reaches certain temps) little did I realise upon trying a game once the card exits this ‘fanless mode’ it goes to 30% fan speed which is the minimum speed.
Now, I have had cards in the past which have done this, but with this particular mode I noticed something peculiar. Once the fans turn on at 30%, the whole card becomes very audible, noisy and overpowers my whole build full of silent fans. My previous MSI 3090Ti was only this loud once reaching 60% fan speed or around there!
There is also this buzzing noise coming out from the card, many people say its cheap/bad motors and bearings. I am not sure if it can be fixed via a bios update but regardless I decided to send this card back. I just couldn’t bare paying over £2000 at the time for something noisy when my previous 3090Ti was heavenly quiet.
I have contacted Zotac and they advise this is normal. It seems they don’t care about the customers and this is not something they will be looking to fix. It may be a bad batch of cards but whatever this is not right with such an expensive product. I had mixed thoughts about parting due to the excellent performance but now I am glad I did since I got a MSI 4090 Gaming Trio instead.
