This 4K monitor is one the best option available for those who wants a bigger quality display for productivity, multitasking and media creation/consumption purposes.
It significantly enhances your experience while performing following tasks:
1. Multi-tasking: you can easily open 4 windows simulaneously (via screen split software by LG) and each window will be like as if you are viewing it on a 13 inch Mac. You can also open 6 or up to 8 windows simultaneously if required and there will be no issues in terms of viewing the content in each window. The screen quality is as good as Retina display on Mac. This is really a handy feature when it comes to WFH setup where you need to work in Remote Desktop (via Citrix) and join ZOOM calls and GOOGLE and CODE at the same time. These are the minimum 4 tasks that every software engineer mostly do as a daily activity.
2. Coding: This is super useful when it comes to coding as text is crisp and crystal clear even with lowest font size. You never going to need to zoom to see stuff, it’s visible beautifully. And you see lot of content all at the same time which gives you a great visibility and increase your efficiency. There will be no strain on your eyes while looking at the screen for prolonged period of time.
3. Media Consumption: Watching 4K content is a breeze on this display. Youtube, Primevideo, Netflix, Hotstar etc., all streeming content works well. I noticed some glitches while watching Apple TV+, could be the incompatibility with native apple media formats.
4. Gaming: this is not a gaming monitor as it is clocked at 60 hz refresh rate. Light gaming might be supported but am not a gamer by any means so can’t comment much on this aspect.
5. Ergo monitor arm: It comes with a super cool monitor arm. It is highly versatile and takes very less space of your work setup. It looks really cool and minimalistic.
I initially had plans to go with ultra wide monitor (34WN80C-b) as it is generally an obvious choice of folks who are looking for multi-tasking and productivity. But after seeing this monitor’s display quality and versatility I decided to go with it instead.
Cons:
1. Backlight bleeding: it has some non-uniform backlight bleed which is visible only in pitch dark. I think that is common with IPS panels but It is not visible while you working or watching videos.
2. No DisplayPort cable provided in the box: I am using MacBook Air 2017 model which comes with a thunderbolt 2/mini display port. I had to buy the cable from amazon cost around INR 800.
Pricing: I bought it for 60K from Appario Retail Private Ltd seller. It think that’s the best price for this monitor in 2021. I have seen other sellers selling this monitor for around 80K which I think is overpriced. I would recommend to buy it from Appario only at max 60K only.
This price might not sound reasonable to some but if you really want a 4K 32” inch display with a versatile monitor arm that makes your work setup looks cool and productive at same time then I think this price is just right.
Mac OS –
I have been using LG monitors for years now. And I can safely say they are one the best deals at this range. I specifically recommend this monitor for Mac users. I have been using it with Intel as well as M1 Macs and it works fine without any issues.
One thing you have to consider is that, this is not a Ratina display, meaning you can still see pixels if you go close enough but this is not a big deal as you won’t notice it from a normal distance.
Also, this is a 4k display. MacOS by default doesn’t support 4k 16:9 displays (5k and 16:10 instead) So you have to change the scaling. I don’t thing this is an issue, but you should consider this before buying.
Pros:
1) good quality display, doesn’t look cheap at all
2) Good viewing angles, IPS is LG thing itself
3) Good port selection good for Bluetooth peripherals, charges with type c
Cons:
1) It’s 4k 16:9 which is not native to MacOS, you need to do scaling
2) Little bit of color correction is required out of the box for perfect color accuracy
3) This is not a retina display, you can see the pixels if you go closer (but not from normal distance)

The display itself is quite good . There is some backlight bleed, but apart from that the colors are sharp and accurate out of the box.
I connected this to my machines , a Macbook air m1 2020 connected to USB-C , 2018 Macbook Pro with Radeon Pro 560 connected to HDMI 1 , a Jetson Nano connected to HDMI2 and to DisplayPort simultaneously .
Following are my observations as on the first day of usage , will update more details later ,
1) There is no quick way to switch between computer inputs , you have to use the joystick button – go to the menu and then select the input . Couldn’t find any way to customise monitor controls . My 10 year old dell monitor had better on-screen display menu software and customisation options . The volume control can be done faster though . Installed LG on-screen control and LG screen split softwares on my mac m1 . At Least on mac air m1 running big sur , no option to control volume and brightness of monitor from mac . Other options are working fine , but the most required feature is for volume and brightness is not .What a paradox !
2) The USB-C downstream connections to USB Drives and Hard Disks get disconnected when you switch to another input and when the computer goes to sleep . The USB-C charging for my macbook air m1 ( 60w) is working well . Using USB-C ( included cable ) i got full 4K 60Hz resolution in youtube
3) For my other mac i used a usb c to hdmi cable which i bought from amazon ( supporting 4K , 60 Hz ) but somehow youtube etc is only playing in HD and not 4K . Have to try with other cables and investigate further
4) My Jetson nano is working well with hdmi connection in full resolution , but unable to use displayport connection with included displayport cable . Again I have to investigate this further .
In conclusion , great hardware – but LG is years behind in software . Mac owners , please don’t buy this for USB-C feature until LG gives better software options , better to go with non usb-c version with all other features same and 10K less . I’ll try to update this review later covering other aspects like text size , how far to sit from the monitor , whether this is good for programming etc .
Those using M1 Mac please read the below link , brightness and volume control using the Mac will not work ,
