Pros: 72 usable discrete PCI Express lanes that conform to Gen 4.0 standard. Super fast. Accommodates 8 NVME M.2s at Gen4 PCIE speed (includes 4 M.2s in the Gen4 AIC Adapter card) With BIOS, able to start GPU in any of the 4 PCIE slots (2 slots x16, 2 slots x8) Thunderbolt 3 compatible card and the AIC NVME m.2 card. 1 x PCI Express x1 slot for my TV tuner card. Accommodates 4 USB 3.0 front IO and front USB C Cons: One of the external MB temperature headers did not work, but it really isn’t needed. Gigabyte is still working on upgrading its software and BIOS to support TRX40 – both a con and pro. The MB has two fans. The smallest one, under the rear IO cage, “sings” if it runs at full speed, but both can be controlled in BIOS. The other fan, cools the chipset and M.2s and it is quiet. Overall Review: Overall very pleased with this MB – speed, extra amenities, solid, easy to work with. I purchased this in December 2019 when AMD Threadripper 3960X became available after a few weeks of waiting to purchase it. MB came with a BIOS that needed some work, but that was to be expected with a completely new CPU. Experienced NO Blue Screens. Since that time Gigabyte has worked to improve the BIOS and supporting software. The Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3 card now works and a new BIOS to make it completely TB3 compatible is still under validation process. Gigabyte has said we will be informed when it is ready. The AORUS Gen4 AIC Adaptor for Extra 4 NVMe PCIe 4.0/3.0 x4 M.2 works without issue so long as it is mounted in one of the two PCI Express x16 slots. If mounted in an x8 slot only two M.2s will work in the card. The card can run a bit warm. Initially, the motherboard ARGB would not recognize G.Skill Trident Z RGB modules, but recent updates to software now can control it. This XL-ATX mb requires a tall PC case, but it will squeeze into 20″ tall Lian Li O11 Dynamic XL case with two radiators and 9 fans. It can control the case’s RGB as well. Yes, I highly recommend it and would purchase it again

Cons: Gigabyte support is useless. Received a motherboard with a faulty memory controller. Would only recognize 2 of 4 memory slots I had memory in (Memory initialization error in BIOS). Swapped chips around and even got new memory. Same slots had issues. Contacted Gigabyte support. There is close to a 5 business day delay in getting a reply. Each time they suggested that it was something beside their motherboard. Finally bought an identical replacement and of course problem was gone. 3 weeks of downtime. Additionally their BIOS update is broken for the M.2 RAID card. Have complained and again they are blaming it on something else. Overall Review: Find a different manufacturer’s board. Support and software sucks.

Pros: This motherboard is equipped to take advantage of the pci-express gen 4 lanes of third generation Threadripper CPUs. Cons: This motherboard is not stable. No post issues with pci-e slot four. The front panel headers are inaccessible with card in pci-e slot four. Overall Review: This board has a lot of potential but is far from being plug-n-play. I really want to like this motherboard but there are some issues. Many reviews, since the board’s introduction, have stated the instability of this board along with several no post problems. Pci-e slot four is not available without updating and changing settings within BIOS. I am receiving a replacement board due to a failure to power on after finally getting the build to post with the intended hardware. I would definitely recommend considering the additional protection program if purchasing this motherboard.
