The NH-L9x65 is a taller, performance-enhanced version of Noctua’s award-winning NH-L9 low-profile coolers. With 65 instead of 37mm height and four instead of two heatpipes, the NH-L9x65 is more powerful than its smaller siblings yet retains their 95x95mm footprint, which guarantees 100% RAM and PCIe compatibility on Intel based ITX mainboards and makes the cooler more convenient to work with as it doesn’t overhang near-socket connectors. Thanks to the highly optimised NF-A9x14 premium fan that supports fully automatic speed control via PWM, the NH-L9x65 runs remarkably quiet. Topped off with the professional SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system for Intel and AMD, and Noctua’s renowned NT-H1 thermal compound, the NH-L9x65 fuses everything users have come to expect from Noctua’s larger coolers into a compact premium package for space restricted systems.
Â
Due to its compact heatsink and the 14mm thin NF-A9x14 low profile fan, the NH-L9x65 stands only 65mm tall (the same height as low-profile expansion cards), which makes it ideal for use in compact HTPCs or Small Form Factor cases that offer limited clearance for CPU coolers. | Â |
The NH-L9x65 has a 95x95mm footprint that complies exactly to the Intel LGA115x socket keep-out zone. This means that it won’t cause issues with chipset coolers and doesn’t overhang the RAM slots, making it fully compatible with tall memory modules. | Â |
Many mini-ITX mainboards have the PCIe slot sitting close to the socket zone. While larger coolers with 120mm or 140mm fans that exceed this zone may block the PCIe slot, the compact NH-L9x65 provides full compatibility with PCIe cards. | Â |
Noctua’s much-acclaimed NT-H1 is a pro-grade TIM solution that provides minimum thermal resistance, excellent ease of use and outstanding reliability. Chosen again and again by overclockers and enthusiast users worldwide, it has established itself as a benchmark for premium-quality thermal compounds. |
Â
The NH-L9x65 is a highly compact, quiet low-profile cooler designed for use in small form factor cases and HTPC environments. While it provides first-rate performance in its class, it is not suitable for overclocking and or CPUs that create high heat loads.

Pros: – Low profile – Quiet – Less RPM with better cooling than stock fan – Affordable Cons: None Overall Review: I’m using this fan with the i3-6100 Skylake and an ASRock Z170M-ITX/ac motherboard. To begin, this fan does fit this ASRock motherboard, but barely. Though the fan is not forcefully pressing on the RAM stick, it certainly does look like it is touching it or perhaps there is literally only thousands of an inch of space between the two. In my system, this fan cools the i3 Skylake up to 5-6 Celsius cooler with about 500-600 RPMs less than the stock fan. My results are based on ASRock’s A-Tuning software that came with the motherboard. Also, the stock fan shipped with the i3-6100 Skylake is noticeably louder. Obviously, if you are gaming with this fan, RPMs will increase depending on temperature. As I am typing this review, A-Tuning tells me the CPU temp is 24C/75F and the fan is spinning at 1985 RPM. For those who are wondering if this Noctua fan will fit your mini-ITX case or other low profile/thin case, be aware that you will need at least 4 1/4-inch wide case to fit this fan. Preferably, the case should be about 4 1/2 inches and up for this fan. This fan will NOT come close to fitting in the Mini-Box M350 case, which I have. It will also NOT fit the Morex T3500 mini-ITX case, which I have. I purchased the In Win Case IW-BM639.AH160TB Black Mini-ITX case for this fan, which has sufficient room and is the smallest case that I know of that will fit this fan, which is 4.4 inches wide. This fan comes with thermal paste, which I am using. There is enough paste for a couple of tries. As far as price, you know what they say: “You get what you pay for!” Overall, I am very happy with this fan.

Pros: – Fits mini ITX cases well. – Excellent performer – Very quiet Cons: – Fan is kind of fugly, but I’ve already got another Noctua fan in my case so it fits the hearing aid/granny undies theme. Overall Review: I bought this for a mini itx Coolermaster elite 130 case, which is really designed for water cooling so has low clearance. The max size listed in 65mm, so I wasn’t sure this would fit. It did, and even with restricted airflow, I can not push my CPU (i7-2600) past 73 degrees, even after maxing it for 3 hours continuously by using folding@home. Also, my computer no longer sounds like it’s going to take off when I rev the fans. The drop in noise was pretty massive, even with the case open. Great design from Noctua.

Pros: – compact – good performance for size Cons: – none considering intended application of product Overall Review: cools a 3.8ghz phenom 955 in an silverstone htpc (3x120mm in , 2x80mm out) case just fine. if you’re towards the top end of the TDP limit with this cooler like i am, make sure you have plenty of air exchange happening in your case. i do game on this machine sometimes, and it will get close to max temps in very long sessions in certain games, which i anticipated. if this were a more heavily used system, i wouldve tried to fit something beefier.
