I have been using this product for over a week now and it is performing really good. My previous DVD-RW drive broke down so, I decided to purchase this one and I am satisfied with the product. However the packaging is not so good there is no box pack except amazons packaging. I have literally received this product in polythene packaging that is disappointing to me. They are bulk products but I atleast believe that it should contain a box.

I am a firm believer in always having an optical drive as part of my set up. Flash drives are good but tend to be prone to failure from time to time. Which is really annoying. Especially when you have paid silly money for them. I have never had an Optical drive fail on me. May be a bad disc but not the drive. This drive is excellent and of course it’s Asus. I have always used Asus for graphics cards and many other things they produce. All quality products. They say the day of Optical drives is coming to an end. I don’t think so. There is always a use for them. Would buy again.

Bought this to install in my desktop PC as when I built it I didn’t include an optical drive and have now decided I need one for ripping CDs. Install was very easy, once in the case and connected, booted up Windows 11, it recognised the drive instantly, and I could start ripping CDs. Despite some comment in reviews, what I have found is that this is a very quiet drive – it is working now and I can’t really hear it. For just over £20, this seems to be a bargain, assuming it lasts.

This is how a sensitive electronic product was delivered on a rainy day. There was just a thin plastic cover. No carton box, no software packs as described in product spec. But to my luck the product is working fine

The drive seems to work fine. I can’t claim it is faulty, but perhaps it’s just the way these are made nowadays.
Firstly the drawer slows down when it’s nearly fully open and as it does you can hear the motor straining before it finally stops. Almost as though the stalled motor is how the device knows when the drawer is fully extended. My previous drives by different manufacturers never did this, simply opening and stopping etc. accomplished by a micro-switch.
Also every 5-10 minutes or so the drive “clunks” as though checking for a disk. A little disconcerting, but it happens.
Perhaps these two behaviours demonstrate how drives are designed to operate nowadays because, as I say, it seems work okay.
Don’t like it though.

This Asus DVD RW drive reads and writes fast.
I had my old Sony DVD writer which performed ok but it had only IDE connector. When I upgraded the Motherboard (+Processer +Memory) it had no IDE connector only SATA connector. Local stores wanted Rs1400/- for LG DVD writer with SATA connector. This Asus DVD RW is available on Amazon for Rs1075/- only. And Asus is a reputed company which makes computers! LG is not a computer company. So I selected this.
It wrote fast with 24x speed. My upgraded system also might have helped in speed. it wrote 4.37 GB data in 6 minutes! You can buy without any hesitation.

I have never replaced a cd drive before and I really anticipated problems somewhere along the line.
This unbelievably cheap replacement was swapped in 10 minutes, two plugs in the back, 2 screws at each side to secure and that’s it done. Tested fine, no software updates or incompatibility issues. I was convinced that out of all the millions of pc towers out there that it would have been a nightmare trying to find the right one. I suppose they are all basically the same.
