Continuing the legacy of Noctua’s classic NH-U-series, which has received more than a thousand awards and recommendations from international hardware websites and magazines, the NH-U14S has become a benchmark for high-end 140mm single tower coolers. The TR4-SP3 version is a tailored custom model for AMD’s sTRX4/sWRX8/TR4/SP3 platform (Ryzen Threadripper / Epyc) and features a larger contact surface as well as the latest SecuFirm2 mounting system for socket sTRX4/sWRX8/TR4/SP3. Topped off with the renowned quiet NF-A15 PWM 140mm fan and Noctua’s proven NT-H1 thermal compound, the NH-U14S TR4-SP3 forms a complete premium-quality solution that combines maximum performance and superb acoustics for enthusiast-grade sTRX4/sWRX8/TR4/SP3 systems.
Â
With five heatpipes and the powerful NF-F12 120mm fan, the NH-U12S achieves outstanding cooling performance while maintaining excellent compatibility: At 158mm height and 125mm width, it is short enough to fit most modern tower cases and stays clear of the top PCIe slot on most motherboards. | Â |
Noctua’s SecuFirm2 mounting systems have become synonymous with quality, safety and ease of use. The TR4-SP3 variant has been completely custom-designed for the new socket and is particularly easy to install: Put on the heatsink, fix the four spring-loaded screws and you’re done! | Â |
In order to assure optimal compatibility with SLI and CrossFire multi-GPU setups, the SecuFirm2 mounting for sTRX4/sWRX8/TR4/SP3 makes it possible to offset the cooler by 3 or 6mm towards the upper edge of the motherboard, thereby increasing clearance of the top PCIe slot. | Â |
Recommended by more than 150 hardware publications and thousands of enthusiasts world-wide, the Noctua’s premium quality NF-F12 Focused Flow 120mm fan is renowned to combine superb static pressure, excellent heatsink performance and surprising quietness of operation. |
Â
Please note that the NH-U12S TR4-SP3 is a dedicated version for the AMD sTRX4/sWRX8/TR4/SP3 socket. Due to its customised larger base, it cannot be used on any other sockets and is incompatible with Noctua’s standard mounting kits.

Pros: Keeps a Threadripper 1950X (not overclocked) at approximately 30C at idle and has never exceeded 62C at load. The hardest part of the installation is figuring out how much thermal paste to apply. Cons: The CPU fan does slightly over hang the closest memory slot on an Asrock X399 Taichi. Overall Review: I would highly recommend this product. The packaging and build quality are unsurpassed. Noctua should sell this product with one of the new black Chromax fans.

Pros: Less complicated too. Seems to handle the heat well. I run applications that use a lot of CPU power and this cooler handles it in stride. Simple to install. Cons: Big and heavy. It has to be though to work well. Overall Review: I’d buy it again in a minute. Can’t say how it might handle the 12 or 16 core CPU, but it works fine with my 8 core unit.

Pros: The most easiest cooler I have installed. Installed on an Asrock x399 Taichi 1950x Threadripper. Temps are great on this cooler. You cannot go by your motherboard bios or auto tuning utility software that came with it. Use a program like Hwinfo which will give you an accurate reading. Threadrippers read 27 degrees Celsius higher when a Tctl reading is used to calculate a temp reading. Reading temps at a higher degree triggers the cpu fan to work as it should according to what others have said. Using Tdie reading will give you an accurate reading which is minus 27 degrees Celsius from Tctl. Many people panic over the readings that use Tctl instead of Tdie. Cons: None Overall Review: Cools just as well as a liquid cooler and cheaper.
