Pros: 6 Cores, 12 threads! Unlocked, very capable chip. Can run at 4.6Ghz. Great workstation chip, but still fast enough to game with, and smoke a 4790K Cons: none

Pros: Is unlocked if you’re into that. Basically i7-5930K but can run ECC ram, can take more memory, lots of feature extensions, has greater turbo. Probably slightly higher grade due to higher stability requirements and the greater turbo. All for 20 bucks more is a good deal. Works with many standard i7 x99 boards Cons: Would have been nice to see a version similar to the i7-5920K. Also would have expected slightly larger cache or memory bandwidth to differentiate from consumer version…but then again about same price. Overall Review: Anything above this gets expensive…fast.

Pros: I built an OpenSUSE (Linux) system using this CPU and an ASRock X99 WS motherboard as a replacement for my aging Opteron system running OpenSolaris. The new system screams. The old BYTE UNIX benchmark program gives a composite score of 7739.9. Hardware sensors typically show CPU cores at 24-28C, rarely going over 30C when busy. Cons: None, though I do miss Solaris. Overall Review: I would absolutely recommend this CPU for those building workstation / server machines. Built in ECC and support for SDRAM > 64GB makes Xeon a better choice over i7, and price is good compared to the larger (multi-socket E5-2* class) chips.
