My Mom needed a WiFi adapter antenna because the marina where she lives on her boat has one WiFi router and she’s very far away from it so she barely gets any service. I bought this one from Netgear and a cheaper one from TP-Link because this one took longer to deliver and she needed one ASAP. The difference in performance between the two is MASSIVE. The TP-Link one improved the connection a bit, but it was still very slow and she couldn’t have Zoom calls without the video and audio dropping out. Once she received the Netgear one, it was better than when she had a wired ethernet connection in her home. She also said that the setup was very fast and easy. Now she has zero problems with her internet. It’s very fast and stable with no dropped connections, and no spinning wheel waiting for a page to load. I did a lot of research before buying one, and this is the best one by far. It’s a little more expensive than the other ones, but you get what you pay for.

So, purchased this Wi-Fi adapter mainly for Nvidia gamestreaming from my laptop to my shield tablet and smartphone(moonlight gamestream)because I didn’t want to invest heavily in a dual band 5ghz router. I was initially dissapointed because the driver software does not support wireless access point mode, only receiver mode is available. Took a fair bit of tinkering in the driver settings but finally figured out that by limiting the device to 802.11 a/n and creating an ad-hoc Wi-Fi direct network with some third party software like connectify,I could get this adapter to broadcast a 5ghz Wi-Fi signal..now I have this set-up purely for game streaming and it’s flawless, interference free, almost lag free(16ms average) 1080p 60 fps game streaming, can do 4k60 no problem on a device that supports it ! However downside here is you can’t connect to a 2.4ghz Wi-Fi using the adapter in this mode, and switching to 802.11 auto mode changes broadcast channel to 2.4ghz which is not ideal..So am using the integrated adapter with my laptop for that which still does a pretty decent job with my Wi-Fi connection(dual band Intel 8265). Overall, very powerful device capable of maintaining near loss-less 5ghz stream. Recommended!

Mis-sold – this is not Mac compatible. Utterly useless to Apple users, unless you run antediluvian OS10.8 – 10.15 or earlier !
Netgear’s advice is:
“Since the product software is only compatible with the Mac OS X 10.8.3 or later, we recommend you to return the product to point of purchase since we don’t have any other option for it to be installed under Mac OS 11 or newer, we apologies for the inconvenience the product have caused you.” Evidently the “or later” means something else to the company. It cannot be bothered to update and clarify its product info – this is a disgraceful lapse for such a fine producer.

Worked perfectly for 6 months. Now its started heating up and connectivity/signal strength drops erratic behavior. Product heating means hardware issue and not a software issue and hence qualifies for replacement. Reaching out to Netgear support is a task in itself. raise a ticket and they would just not respond (as is promised). They closed 1st ticket saying it does not qualify for warranty. No clear reasoning given. Opened 2nd ticket now, hope they resolve the mess. Amazon says 2 year warranty from manufacturer, Netgear support seems to dodge. Ridiculous experience with their support team.

July 2020 update:
Works brilliantly with Linux and bleeding edge kernels. Good number of contributors are pushing updates on GitHub. Check out aircrack-ng on GitHub to download any updated driver. This card is good substitute to gbit ethernet. Absolutely no issues when updating new kernels using make. Works well with raspberry Pi 4 on usb3. 0…no issues. Highly recommended device if you frequently use vnc and ssh, but all speed is determined by router. So get a good router if you want to exploit this card. This driver also works for rtl8812au…. Ac600.
Works with Linux… Kernel 4.18.5 as of Sept 2018
Install drivers manually using either dkms or compile using make…. Then insmod the driver. Switch off SECURE BOOT in BIOS as it creates problems.
NOVEMBER 2019 UPDATE: I have revised it to a 2 star rating. One for Amazon and one for Netgear. Read Further.
With the 5.3 series kernel there hasn’t been any updated driver on github. You will be forced to use 5.2 series the last being 5.2.18 with this device. I reckon it will work nicely with 4.19 on the new Debian but most people aren’t gonna use that.
Realtek does NOT officially provide any apt support for the RTL series devices for LINUX. The A7000 uses the RTL8814AU chipset which is excellent but has pathetic support with the new kernel. DO NOT get this device or any of the RTL series because it will not work with fedora 31 or other newer distros. So much for performance, so little for being useless. Even the ALFA 1900 which uses the same chipset is nothing more than a fancy brick to look at.
I also have the TPLINK T2U nano which has the RTL8812AU and that too is useless at the moment.

Easy to install on windows / Mac.
Showing Max Speeds upto 867 MBPS as documented.
Works with every type of WiFi Router including JioFiber and Airtel Fiber. To get best speed, one may use it at area where max conjunctions are less to catch.
Also, max speed is depending on type of internet plan one is having.

The product is good and getting high speed on 5ghz band. Its advisable to plug in USB 3.0 port.
Pros
High speed
Easy to install. Just follow quick start guide procedure.
Has a usb stand for easy placing away from laptop
Cons
Huge for factor (big size) .
Difficult to use it as a USB attachment on a laptop. Will hamper use of other adjacent ports.
Price on a higher side.
If you want smaller dongle you can go for A6210

Purchased it for 3.2k, 10hr delivery, totally happy.
Been using it for a couple of days and it works fabulously (installed drivers from online site). My laptop’s internal card was damaged and repair would have costed around 7k so I chose this product.
Though a little big in size it is amazing. I use netgear 300n router and the router is at a level below my room and the speed is awesome compared to my internal wifi card when it was working and my phone oneplus3t.
This product is definitely worth it if you want the signal to reach farther than 10m or packed complexes. My router transmits 45mbps when you’re beside it. My phone picks up 26mbps and the receiver picks up 32mbps whereas my internal card used to pick up around 21mbps.
My internal WiFi card is Intel AC 3160. It’s definitely an upgrade from older laptop’s internal cards.
Pros:
Amazing receiving capacity.
Easy install.
Magnetic cradle for sloppy surfaces.
WPS button.
Sleek design.
Cons:
Little big in size.
Looks delicate.

Bought these to replace our wired connections on our two basement workstations. These didn’t have wireless cards installed. We specifically connected them to the main floor modem/router by ethernet in order to get the best speed however this entailed extra cables lying around. Thought about installing wifi cards in the machines but these USB adapter were the best choice. Easy setup and very powerful reception even between two floors. Fantastic, highly recommended.

i ordered this product because of its size and brand. I thought it is netgears product so it will work fantastically. but i was wrong, device is portable but internet speed is very low. I have 100mpbs airtel broadband connection and it works absolutely fine with all the devices except this. whenever I am on zoom call or google meet call I can’t hear the voice and always it keep saying you have a unstable internet connection. this happens only with netgears WIFI adapter, if I change to laptops inbuilt WIFI it works absolutely fine. so I am fade up now. my inbuild WIFI get frequently disconnected that’s why I have ordered this device which is actually useless. i do not recommend
